Foreign Policy Forum and the Faculty of Political Science, University of Zagreb, invite you to a public presentation and roundtable marking the publication of the new Routledge volume Yugoslavia and China: Histories, Legacies, Afterlives by Anastas Vangeli and Dragan Pavlićević.
The book offers a groundbreaking exploration of Sino‑Yugoslav relations, from the Cold War and the Non‑Aligned Movement to contemporary “ironclad friendship”, infrastructure projects, and China’s growing role in the post‑Yugoslav space. Combining diplomatic, economic, cultural, and intellectual history, it shows how Yugoslavia helped shape China’s self‑understanding and how these shared histories continue to reverberate in today’s multipolar world.
The authors will present the main findings of the volume and discuss with participants how socialist legacies, contested memories, and new geopolitical realities intersect in current relations between China and the countries of former Yugoslavia.
The working language of the event will be English.
