In brief, Pusić emphasized that Iran is not a state like Venezuela, as Trump imagines it in his mind, nor is it a weak state.
“The question is what the goal of this operation is. According to what Trump has said, it would be a solution similar to the one established in Venezuela, with people who do not represent a regime change, but merely new figures who would open the path to oil. For him, the ideal solution would be like the one in Venezuela. So, not a regime change, and this has nothing to do with the human rights that are being violated in Iran,” Pusić stated.
She added that one man (Trump) independently decided to undertake such an action against the regime.
“I think no one in their right mind has anything nice to say about that regime or in defense of that regime, but there is plenty to say against actions that violate international law and where one man says he will overthrow the regime there,” she said.
When asked if there is a clear plan, Pusić responded: “There isn’t. What is being done is more the agenda of Benjamin Netanyahu, who has had this scenario on his agenda for a long time. He portrays it as an Israeli operation in which the Americans are helping them. And Trump portrays it as an American operation. However, the reason for an attack right now, and one this fierce, is not because Iran was strong at this moment and posed a threat to the world, but quite the opposite – the reason is that Iran is quite weak at this moment. And the assessment was that there is no real danger from this Iran. That is why this is the moment when a situation can be established that will open access to oil and gas in Iran and establish control over the regime there by the US, with significant influence from Netanyahu. This now has consequences for the entire Middle East,” Pusić concluded.
